American Beer Classic Chicago, The good the bad and the ugly

This weekend I was able to attend the American Beer Classic at Soldier Field In Chicago. I was pouring for Potosi Brewing , the weather was much better than expected and I was excited to be there! We counted almost 100 breweries in attendance. A lot of the big boys were there: Goose Island, Sam Adams, Lagunitas, Stone and Dogfish. Wisconsin was well represented by: Potosi, Sprecher, Lake Front, Milwaukee Brewing Company and Central Waters. There were many local start-ups also, All Syndicate,…

Heavy Seas Small Craft

I bought a six pack of Small Craft Über Pils brewed by Heavy Seas pretty much on a whim when looking for something for my Friday night/end of the week decompression session.  It was a cold  beer that I'd never had before from a brewer I'd never heard of.  That's good enough for me!

Brewdog Prototypes: The Verdict

After a few days of waiting, my Brewdog prototype beers arrived. I went for three of each of the beers: a Pilsner called Nuns with a Guns, a super hoppy IPA called Jackhammer and a 10% ABV…

Harviestoun Old Engine Oil

Before Christmas, I was pretty well stocked up on beer but then a number of people (knowing me well) gave me beery presents, meaning that my beer stash grew considerably.

Amongst the varied selection that I had amassed, one beer was really calling out for me to drink it on Christmas day. A…

CBG - Taste the Revolution

When hubby and I received an invitation to attend a local craft beer tasting it wasn't an invitation I could easily ignore.  An opportunity to sample a numbered and varied selection of craft beers was a mouthwatering prospect.

The invitation came from Craft Brew Guy who is…

Beer Review – Weyerbacher Last Chance IPA

I just recently attended the Kennett Square Craft Beer Festival.  It has been quite a few years since my last visit and one of the things I remeber most was my visit to the Weyerbacher booth. That was actually the first time I tried Weyerbacher craft beers and they stood out as one of my…

Avery Brewing Co. has just announced their plans for expansion. They are still in the works of sealing the deal on a 5.6 acre spot in north Boulder, 4910 and 4920 Nautilus Court. Does a flashy label mean a brewer is compensating for something?

(Cross posted from: http://aleevangelist.wordpress.com/2011/10/14/does-a-flashy-label-mean-a-brewer-is-compensating-for-something/)

As someone who could truthfully be classified as a serious beer snob, I find myself having to stifle some of my snobbier characteristics.  For one, I tend to make snap judgments, as I mentioned in my …

I have BOOBS and I drink BEER

**(Read on for pics of both)

The deeper I have delved into the craft beer industry, the more discrimination I have seen against the boobed beer drinkers. I have several comments to make on the issue.

1) Women generally have a better sense of smell than men, thereby enabling them to better dissect and enjoy foods.

2) Traditionally,… Continue

Review: Sierra Nevada’s Ovila Abbey Dubbel

(Cross-posted from: http://aleevangelist.wordpress.com)

In a magazine I used to read a great deal, I was surprised to see an advertisement for an Abbey style ale from the awesome brewery known as…Sierra Nevada? Yes, Sierra Nevada has thrown their hat in the ring of craft abbey ales.  What did I think?  Well, hit the jump to find out.

Appearance – This beer has a nice, resilient…

Old Clarence – Boulevard Brewing Co

UPDATE: Looks like I was only partially correct in my posting about this beer... and by partially, I mean not really close at all. I'll blame Marla for that one!

I just received this message from Jeremy Danner, a brewer at Boulevard about the beer that is much, much more accurate than what I wrote: "Old Clarence is a Bully! Porter that's been aged in a whiskey barrel. It's…

Muffin tops, saddle bags, thunder thighs and cankles

Baby got back and now we know why. Calories. Do you know what they are? One of my most horrifying college experiences was on a trip down to good ol' Georgia Southern University to visit my girlfriends from high school. As we began to discuss which road to inebriation we would be taking that night, one girl chimed in that she was watching her weight so she would be drinking liquor, not beer. When questioned… Continue

Stone Brewing Co’s Greg Koch

During lunch I swung over to Royal Liquors on State Line and 103rd St. (Kansas City). Greg was supposed to host a tasting and signing from 12-1p… I showed up right around 12 with no one in sight…

No worries, they were running 20 minutes late. So, I swung over to Taco Bell for something I’m sure I’ll later regret, then headed back to Royal to meet the man himself. I only chatted with him for a few minutes, as others were lined up to meet him and get their bottles signed. I did…

Avery Brewing Co. Announces Plans To Exit 8 States and 7 Partial State Markets

Craft beer fans in eight states became very sad today as Avery Brewing Co. announces they will be removing themselves from eight states and seven other partial-state markets starting in April. This year Avery has seen  tremendous growth in their product with 81% growth in Colorado and overall production growth of 75%. Dive Bar Craft Beer

I was lucky to get out of work early enough(12:30am) the other night to visit my friend Tara Curry who bartends at Star Bar Denver (a really cool dive bar two blocks from Coors Field). She recently left a local beer bar and started at Star Bar because the owner knows his craft beer.

Star Bar is one the oldest dive bars in Denver. Opening in 1959 and still in existence…

Dogfish Head Aprihop

Not too long ago I tried Dogfish Head‘s 90min IPA and I kinda fell in love. Coming from a non IPA lover that should say a lot. So when I saw Dogfish Head’s Aprihop in stores I mean I had to buy it, right?

Dogfish Head Brewery is known for making some very crazy beers or rather “off centered ales for off centered people” as their motto goes.…
