Rogue Voodoo Doughnut - Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Banana Ale.

Mmmmm, doughnut!  Mmmmm, beer! A doughnut flavored beer?  Really?? Yeah, really.

Half Acre Beer's Daisy Cutter Pale Ale

My first trip to Las Vegas was during the Spring Break of my Freshman year of college.  A friend invited me to come home with her for our week long break.  And yes, up to that point in time, I hadn't realized that people actually lived there.   You know, in neighborhoods in houses with grocery stores, little leagues, laundry mats and all.  I also learned that those grocery stores and laundry mats did have slot machines stationed by the front door, so it wasn't all Mayberry…

Willibrew Guest Taps

My recommendation is that if you're visiting Willimantic Brewing Company for the first time that you focus on their house brews.  They are always fresh and consistently good. You won't be disappointed.  But once you've tried them all, there is invariably a number of good brews on the guest taps.

New Albion Ale

The New Albion Brewing Company was founded in 1976 and was arguably THE  microbrewery that spurred the ever growing craft beer movement.  In it's heyday New Albion brewed 7.5 barrels of beer per week that sold every single bottle to a ravenous beer loving public at an alarming rate.  Unfortunately, they were never able to brew enough beer to make a…

Spiteful Brewing's Burning Bridges Brown Ale

I love learning the story behind brewery names. Sometimes they're funny (Clown Shoes Beer)  Sometimes they set a location (New Glarus or Great Lakes.)  But the best names give you a bit of insight into the brewers themselves.  Spiteful Brewing is a small (how small?  Let's just say that I'm pretty sure that…

Avery Brewing's Ellie's Brown Ale

Once people get an idea in their heads, it's very difficult to get them to change their minds about something.  Wine should always be corked.   Eggs are bad for you.  Glee is a well written, heartwarming show about teenagers.   When in reality, a twist off top is a better capping system to keep your wine from being oxidized.  An average egg contains just 70 calories and 6.9 grams of muscle building  protein.  And Glee  is just a sorry excuse for light FM TV starring actors who…

Begyle Brewing's Crash Landed

Being the new kid is never easy.  Finding your place in the group.  Figuring out what it is that you have to offer and then convincing everyone that they actually really want whatever that is.  It's all the insecurity of  high school, only with out the backpacks and bad hair (although I've got to ask.  Are hipster beards the brewers version of chef tattoos?   And do they have any sort of direct correlation to the IBU units in the beer they produce?  I wonder about these things.)  …

Great Lake's Brewing's Conway's Irish Ale

hey say on St. Patrick's Day that everyone is Irish.  Well, 365 days a year I'm always Irish.  My maternal grandmother, who was also named Marie (which I'm sure is just a coincidence), came over from County Mayo when she was just 16 years old.   She left her family's small farm in the West of Ireland and sailed across the sea to a new country to join her older sisters in the quest for a better life. When I was 16, my…

North Coast Brewng's Brother Thelonious Belgian Style Abbey Ale

There are two types of people in the world.  Those that love jazz and those that are tone deaf. I love jazz. Not that smooth, "hey baby, want to come up to my pad and see my etchings" sort of music. If it's something that you might hear in your dentist's office during a root canal, it's not what I'm talking about here. But the soulful moans of Charlie Parker's alto sax? The playful tinkling of Oscar Peterson on the ivories? The mellow California casualness of Dave Brubek and his…

New Glarus Brewing Co.'s Winter Warmer

I think by now, I've made it pretty clear that I'm a fan of New Glarus beers.  Spotted Cow, Back 40, Fat Squirrel are some of the best reasons to travel North to Wisconsin (Why, New Glarus?  Why take away my Fat Squirrel???  Was it something I said?  I can change!  Well, not a lot, honestly.)  So when I discovered that they brewed a Scottish ale this…

Lagunitas Lucky 13.alt

I am of the opinion that Lagunitas is one of the best micro breweries around.  They're beer is diverse and consistently good.  To me, Lagunitas is like the west coast equivalent of my beloved east coast Dogfish Head.

It's pretty much a no…

Apple Ale by New Glarus Brewing Co.

In my family, we all get to choose our dessert when our turn at the great birthday wheel comes around.  I say birthday dessert and not cake because for years now, not one of us has chosen a cake for our big day.  More often than not, we have cupcakes or possibly brownies.  My mother, for reasons only known to herself, pulls out a butterscotch pudding request every few years.  When the end of August rears it's head, I always make it known that I want a candle or two in a fresh baked…

Milly’s Tavern - Manchester, NH

This past weekend I was in Manchester, New Hampshire - AKA Manch-vegas because, just like its namesake, whatever happens there stays there - for an annual meet-up with fellow bloggers and blog groupies.

While in town, since it was nearby, I got the opportunity to swing by Milly’s Tavern to sample of their delectable beers.…

Lagunitas Sucks Brown Shugga Substitute Ale

I had the bestest beer last night! Lagunitas Sucks Brown Shugga Substitute Ale.  When I saw the name up on the beer board listed simply as Lagunitas Sucks I was like, "Lagunitas does NOT suck?  What the f*%*?!?"

So, I ordered it.  After a taste, I can tell you for certain that this beer did not…

Thanksgiving Beer Pairings

Thanksgiving Beer Pairs

One of my bosses likes to tell me that whatever I am doing, it's not rocket science.  This is probably a good thing, because my math skills are, let's just call them, lacking.  Pairing beer with your Thanksgiving celebrations also should definitely fall into the "not rocket science" category (if you want to learn exactly what is rocket…
