Steve Body has been writing about and studying beer since 1972 when, as a junior at the University of Maryland, he wrote "A Celebration of Celebrator" for the UM student newspaper. Since then, he's worked as an arts reviewer, music critic, beer reviewer, ad agency copywriter, and, since 1993, a wine writer and steward in his hometown of Seattle. He's 58 and grandfather of ten and also designs wine labels and writes mystery novels.
How did you get started as a beer blogger?
I was known as the beer snob of my freshman class at Maryland and was already a published magazine writer, so the student newspaper asked me to write about my favorite beer which, at the time, was Celebrator (still one of my all-time faves). About a week after that piece came out, I got a call from the old Washington Times, whose lifestyle editor asked if I would do occasional beer reviews. I did and that was the start of 38 years of guilty fun.
